Can I do my own incorporation?

Can you do our own incorporation? Well, kind of – you can walk into a registry yourself but you still need to have a registry agent to file the Articles of Incorporation, Notice of Directors, and Notice of Address.

However, the fact that the agent completes the filing does not mean that everything is correct. We often have new clients approach us after doing their own incorporation and we have to go back and fix the Articles of Incorporation for them, but it costs more for us to fix the problem than if the client had just hired us in the first place.

The registry agent also won’t tell you that your corporation must have a minute book. The minute book contains the bylaws, director resolutions, shareholder resolutions, share certificates, and the various registers and ledgers that the corporation is required to have. The registry agent will not help you create the minute book.
